The new maintenance facility has already been built, just East of the new Hillcrest BART station.

Standard guage was originally selected because eBART planned to use existing tracks (UP Tracy Sub/SP Mococo line), but that plan didn't happen. It was also done to save money. Keep in mind that BART's infrastructure and technology are very outdated. Parts are becomming harder to find, and eBART will not require BART's trackside computers. The new trains will be DMU's, so it costs much less to build.

A recent report stated that they are considering extending the system as far as Marsh Creek Road in Brentwood.
