Not to mention the scrap market is the lowest in recent history; $75 a net ton for #1 prepared here in the Portland, OR area which railroad scrap such as tie plates, angle bars etc. and they are essentially already cut up. Just a year ago it was $210 and five years ago was bringing $440 per net ton.
Nobody's gonna make money or come out even on this project and most of the copper is long gone. The cost of labor (even if the owner does it himself) oxy-acetylene and equipment rental exceeds the scrap value. Lets see..a 120 ton geep @ $75/ton equals about NINE GRAND cut up and delivered to the scrap yard.
Hmmm...better sit on 'em for a few more years!
