The Mussel Slough Tragedy occurred in what is now Kings County (in 1880 just within Fresno County), about two miles north of Grangeville and a mile southeast of Hardwick. The Selma historical monument's location is on a turnout from Golden State Boulevard but which was once Highway 99 and refers vaguely to the actual location.
