I have filled in for Espee99 in preparing Trainnews on occasion. My method is simply to use "railroad" as a Google search term, then when the results are returned, to click on the "News" tab.
From that point, its simply a matter of scanning the provided links to find some likely choices. Once you identify a suitable article, copy/paste the headline into a text file, and then copy/paste the article link. Then back to the Google search results to find the next article.
I use also searches for "railway" and "trains". The Progressive Railroading site also prepares a daily news feed, and some story links can be found easier by checking their site directly.
I start each edition with a template text file that has the basic outline of the daily Trainnews layout. If you want to link photos from certain stories, it can be as simple as copy/paste with appropriate formatting codes. For me, a macro utility that can store & paste in pre-made macros speeds things up, but just typing in text works also.
I have been providing content for the "On This Day in Railroad History" feature. That database remains available and I am willing to keep it updated if someone wants to continue using it.
