We're just going to have to agree to disagree, I mean afterall, it is only how I make my living.
The ties on the Coos Bay line have been treated with ACZA and that is generally due to the fact that there is a treating plant in Coos Bay that treats with that chemical. You know, supporting local business.
There are generally 3200 ties per mile of track and I can assure you that Creosote is how it's done and again, it's not even close.
Having attended the RTA (Railway Tie Associtation) convention time and time again and listening to the Class 1's and large regional railroads give there wood tie estimates, I can assure you, Creosote treated wood ties aren't going away soon. If you want hard data, I can get it for you, however Class 1's are expected to use approximately 18,132,000 wooden ties treated with Creosote this calendar year and shortlines another 6.2 Million wooden ties, mostly treated with Creosote.
