So will BNSF, just not as much. BNSF has been more willing to renegotiate contracts, to keep the business that's out there, than UP has. Being a privately held company might have something to do with it.
BNSF, though, has alot more to lose in the crude oil market if things really go south. The only thing that is propping up the Bakken crude oil business right now, in the face of cheaper imports, is high refining margins. The amount of gasoline, diesel, ect. being exported from USA refineries now is near an all time high. Ironicly, more refining means more LPG moving via the rails. That has been one bright spots for both UP and BNSF this year compared to last.
