There are reports of illegal activity on the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line. Down by Seascape a homebuilt speeder has been spotted. Up towards Davenport a factory motorcar has been spotted. There is a report of an encounter by a resident with the operator of the motorcar on the Davenport Branch that the operator is posing as a railroad employee. Any information that would help identify these individuals would be greatly appreciated by the SC&MB and RTC.
In addition, I have been posting over on Next Door Mar Vista. There is a woman posting there who is against the rail and she sent me the following message.
I rode with the MOW group both times they had excursions on the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line and they never operated at 35mph nor did they have a maximum speed set my the SC&MB and RTC. The following is from what the MOW proposed to the RTC and the RTC accepted.
“Most cars have a top speed of about 35 m.p.h. Since we travel in a group of usually 25 to 30 cars, our speed is limited to that of the slowest car. We generally travel at speeds between 15 to 25 mph with frequent stops at scenic places and to take bathroom breaks.
Our speed is always limited by a rule that requires we be able to stop in half the distance we can see ahead. This is particularly important on curves. Our hobby is unusual in that it is strictly noncompetitive.”
What is so striking about her message is that the operation of the motorcars, that are legally traveling on the rail line, are creating an unsafe situation for random walkers and dog walkers who are trespassing. She is oblivious to the fact the random walkers and dog walkers are trespassing and creating the unsafe situation.
