Then in the sidebar article 10 More Blunders, the same author names The Burlington Northern Merger as Blunder #8, adding : " The northern transcontinental routes would have been more competitive if the Northern Pacific had merged instead with the Milwaukee Road."
Huh ??? How could the merger of the weakest link in Burlington Northern and an over - built Mid-West granger railroad have been anything less than a disaster ???
