I know of a car load of mail that was lost in plain sight on the Pennsy. A mail storage car that was full of mail was set out at a station in PA (don't recall the exact city) and
was never picked up, eventually the car got shoved out of the way and eventually brush grew
around the car and it was known about, but believed empty, and wasn't opened until Conrail
reduced the yard tracks and wanted to get the car out of the way again and discovered it
was full of mail some 40 years later. I had a friend, who recenly passed away, that had
photo's of the car and a newspaper story about it, but his moron kids threw away all of his
railroad slides and photos when they cleaned out his home.
.
(Why can't I ever find a train load of gold?)
