I seem to recall that cars ordered with basic hubcaps were shiped that way because they generally were not worth stealing, cars ordered with premium hubcaps had them removed and locked in the trunk for shipment. Nice to see the Trailer Train brown for a change.
Just think, cars shipped in uncovered auto racks these days would be completely stripped, windows broken and covered with graffiti.
