A capacity "solution" for Niles Canyon, infers to me, based on 50 or so years of this, that there is, as yet, no final candidate option for how to increase capacity this segment. Per our earlier discussions on this subject, additional passenger and freight capacity may not require relocation, at all. There are several options, as per our earlier discussions that could use parallel a track, or even double tracking part of the UP (as I believe is being proposed for the additional capacity needed a little further up the Canyon?).
It is prudent to look for alternatives, for this and other locations and/or collections in jeopardy, if necessary. But, as usual, we really see folks going all "silly sally' with some of the usual speculation and recriminations....... (Oh well, it is the internet....... Jeez Louise, the world (of Bay Area RR Museums....) is coming to an end.......yet again...?
First, take a deep breath and count to ten. If you have better options, cheaper options, more effective possible operational options for them to consider, with less impacts or better trade offs, then contact the ACE Board Members, and write a letter making such suggestions. When public comment on scoping is under way, then provide comments, maps, or diagrams which identify other options for consideration.
Enough with whining about it, already! Do something constructive for a change......
