At Christmastime, Jack would lay tracks around the couch and past the tree for his and wife Ellin’s grandson, Jake—to some inconvenience for the average pedestrian or holiday guest.

“He had them go behind the couch, in front of the couch, the piano bench was the station, and Jake would sit there and look at it,” Ellin recalled.

“So when he was in the living room, every time the train came around, you would lift your feet… Jake was absolutely fascinated with this, and I couldn’t stand having it in the living room!”
