Biggest the San Andreas system can produce is about 8, maybe 8.2, according to people who know what they're talking about. OTOH, a 7-something can be effective; 1906 was about 7.6-7.8 on the moment magnitude scale.

WRT to the BART thing, I think the vast majority of those posting here have no reason to be in SF this weekend. I certainly don't. So the work won't be a personal problem. Might be interesting to see some pix when/if they become available.
