DPU's in the Willamette Valley

While I was travelling back to Eugene from Salem Friday evening I encountered a northbound train between Eugene and Albany that was mostly loaded lumber. It's surprising enough to see northbound lumber loads, but the big surprise was that it had DPU's on the rear end. When did UP start running DPU's on northbound trains in the Willamette Valley?
