Well... yeah it was. A high school friend came home in a casket, assuming he came home at all. His name is on the Wall.
I am very grateful I ended up where I did.
I went over to SK just after the Pueblo incident, while on leave before shipping out from Sea-Tac a US fighter plane was shot down by NK, and while stationed there, there were several, unreported apparently, deaths of US personnel along the DMZ, not to mention the occasional alerts when a NK ship was spotted in SK waters.
From my point of view, my tour over there was basically a Boy Scout expedition with extra thrills.
As for the DAV rating... there is more to it than just missing limbs or PTSD.
