Had an interesting talk with some company officials. They utilize a system from GE called trip optimizer that will 'auto-throttle' the train over a territory. Mixed reviews from the crews.

The algorithm that the PTC and Trip Optimizer utilize are not the same. In fact during testing, PTC made enforcement actions (Penalty application of the brakes) against the trip optimizer activated. Creating a log entry for unable to slow down for a slow order.

So as long as there are multiple designers, I guess that our jobs are safe!
