CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) – Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway officials say some railroad jobs are being transferred from Clovis to Amarillo to improve the flow of train operations.
The Clovis News Journal reports BNSF spokesman Joe Sloan says the train crews of conductors and engineers are being moved to Amarillo to work on long-pull trains that run from Atlanta to Los Angeles.
He says he doesn’t know the exact number of jobs being moved.
The long-pull trains will still run between Amarillo and Belen, but they won’t make a stop in Clovis.
Clovis Industrial Development Corp. Executive Director Chase Gentry says he doesn’t expect the move to have a strong economic impact on Clovis. According to CIDC’s website, BNSF employed 459 Clovis residents in 2012, the most recent year available.
