The CSRM has had to downsize their collection for the very reason everybody keeps complaining about - they have had too much equipment for the limited amount of safe indoor storage available. They gave away a lot of equipment when they lost outside storage with the beginning of the redevelopment of the yards. But they didn't have takers for everything on the deaccession list. They have had a list of equipment that was available to other museums for a while now. I applaud them for hanging on to the equipment to give museums the chance to preserve it instead of taking the easy way out and scrapping everything they didn't want. Everyone is quick to point out that the engines have been stripped by vandals. The fact is, wiring and tubing can be replaced but if the locomotive is cut up it's gone forever.
