It's also much better to call that number than 911 if it's not an immediate public emergency. I was on light rail one afternoon and saw people climbing over a trackside wall (on a freight spur near the light rail tracks) and pulling track parts. Called 911. They couldn't figure out who to forward me to or notify, even after I told them it should be UP police.

I'm usually in UP territory, so those numbers will go into my phone. Presumably there similar ones for the other major RRs - any references or directories?
