Amtrak News release April 30, 2008

OAKLAND – Amtrak will resume normal operations between Los Angeles and Seattle on the disrupted Coast Starlight route beginning Tuesday, May 6, 2008 with the northbound Coast Starlight, train #14. The first southbound Coast Starlight, train #11, will depart Seattle on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Full service will be restored on trains operating in both directions.
Train service on the route was suspended between Los Angeles and Seattle on January 19, due to massive landslides over the railroad north of Chemult, Ore. Union Pacific Railroad worked over the past three and half months to restore the tracks affected by the slides.
Amtrak began partial “coach only” train service on February 1, between Los Angeles and Sacramento, with no alternate transportation north of Sacramento. On February 29, Amtrak introduced substitute motorcoach service between Sacramento and Portland. On April 15, Amtrak extended train service beyond Sacramento to Klamath Falls, Ore. with motorcoach connections to Eugene, Ore. At Eugene, passengers were able to board trains to Seattle and destinations in between.
