To get into a little more technical detail. A morning ACE train runs over the UP Fresno Subdivision (Former SP line) to Hicks, then over the UP Oakland Subdivision (former WP line) to Niles, then over the UP Niles Subdivision (former SP line) to Newark, then the UP Coast Subdivision to Santa Clara, then over the Caltrain Peninsula Subdivision to San Jose. It should be noted that the ACE trains can run on an alternate route between Hicks (at Lathrop) and Hunter St. (in Stockton) via the UP Oakland Subdivision as opposed to going the Fresno Subdivision, but will usually avoid this route because UP has switching going on at the Lathrop Intermodal facility. There are several slow orders on this last segment anyway.
