K-townRail ---
Thank you VERY much for the link to that
fasciating story. Man --- it is absolutely
amazing what those people have done! And
Kingsburg is very small - only around 11,000
people. That is a very attractive and very
impressive depot -- and they got it completely
restored! One man even donated a carved wooden
Dala horse - because a large carved wooded Dala
horse had been put on top of that depoi when it
was extensively remodeled way back in 1923.
Dala horses are carved woodden and painted
figures of horses. Making these carvings is a
long-time Swedish tradition, and, since most
of the early settlers in this town were Swedish,
that is why a Dala horse was put on top opf that
depot.
I wonder: Is that the only depot that ever had a
statue of an animal on top?
This is the town whose water tank looks like
a Swedish coffepot. Kingsbug also has a
Swedish Festival every May.
The depot was finally finished, and the Grand
Opening was yesterday -- Friday, November 27, 2015.
Kingsburg is about 20 miles south of Fresno.
