Why would the ODOWP-10 (the oilcan mtys) be running ?

On the way to work this morning and I was driving along San Fernando Road and saw the
ODOWP-10 the mty oil cans busting tail up the #1 track towards the coast line at 930 am.

Why would UP be so desperate to run a mty oil train on Metrolink and Amtrak commute times?
