PG&E never said it would not allow a spur. It the additional cost of incasing the gas line to make it safe to build a new spur. (San Bruno explosion) One of the challenges facing the NWP is the lack of spurs and the way warehouses have been laid out and built without considering rail service as the railroad was shut down for ten years. The Alexander valley warehouse lay out cannot fit more than two or three cars.So is it worth building a two or three car spur with the added cost of protecting a gas line? If the answer is yes they would have begun construction a couple of years ago. The big Korbel warehouse is just south of Alexander. They ship a lot of wine but building a rail spur into a warehouse built on the wrong angle to the tracks would be expensive and they too would have to deal with the PG&E gas line and a trestle over a creek. Just south of Piner road in north Santa Rosa the wine warehouse that has a unconnected spur and was designed to load out boxcars is being converted into a indoor soccer field.
