Ah, yes. The 2701.
Our first encounter was back in the summer of '73. It was the second unit (behind the 8613) on a 166-car drag out of Tracy to Oakland. Once passed the higher speed board leaving town, when the GE made transition it flashed over and died (gee, what a surprise), but the 2701 just kept plugging along - albeit slowly - even making the set outs and pick ups at Pittsburg and Ozol. By Oakland we were down to only 84 cars, and the 7th Street curve was too much for it to conquer, so a West Oakland yard engine had to double-head us in.
Our next (and last) encounter with was on its maiden trip from Roseville to Oakland, after its reincarnation as the 1501.
