4449 trips?

I understand that BNSF now operates in a sort of "directional" operation in Washington state now. Does that mean any future mainline excursions with 4449 out of Portland may only have 1 direction option for a trip anywhere? Portland north to Auburn.. Then east over Stampede pass to Pasco... Then west back through the gorge to return to Portland? Is there no way to work out a trip south toward Eugene, Oregon?
