Thanks for the snippet regarding a transcontinental line Bolivia-Brazil.
Santos, Brazil, is connected to Sao Paulo via an electric rack railway that
replaced a rope powered set of inclines. That one was subject of a TRAINS article waaaaay back in the 50s.
The stuff of which legends are made
The present rack ry is on the alignment of the first 1857-1899 line,
the second line 1900-198x has been , from time to time,
considered for rebuilding.
Maybe if this pie in the sky ever gets going the Serra do Mar Incline will be enlarged
