Certainly you can be both. I was when commuting, when weather and timing cooperated. Rode bike about 4 miles to the light rail station, put it in a bike locker, took the train downtown. Reverse going home. Downhill AM, uphill PM. Lots of people bring their bikes on the light rail trains, too.
