UP Cascade Line Power

Lately I have been noticing that since the track south out of Eugene has been reopened, UP has been placing their DPU helper engines mid-train, SP style, instead of at the rear. I don't see every train, but this weekend, on the pass, I saw several hooked up this way. Just a change I have seen. Does anyone know what prompted UP?
