Years ago I remember a BN Alliance Division condr deciding to retire at the away from terminal of Ravenna, Nebraska. Called his wife and she drove down to pick him up! The managers were fuming over something they had no control over.
Another time the assigned condr that ran between Edgemont and Deadwood, South Dakota retired at Deadwood! Think this was 1982. Crew came to work at Deadwood and found a note attached to the depot door stating the condr had retired and where to send his last paycheck.
