Was on 2 Amtrak Capitol Corridor trains that got rocked in a cut just north of Richmond. Didn't stop either time. One of them was just noise; the other took out a couple of windows - shattered, but stayed in place, though the people sitting near it rightly moved to other seats.

A distinguishing characteristic of locomotives used on commuter trains Back East once was wire-mesh grillework over the cab windows to deflect rocks. What ever happened to those?
