Pam and I went for a drive up Highway 1 on Valentine’s Day and got off at Swanton Road instead of continuing north. Pam had never visited the Sawanton Pacific Railroad so we dropped by to check it out. It was a work weekend for the railroad and we asked one of the volunteers if it was ok if we walked the right of way. After getting permission we went for a walk on their beautiful property.








Along the way we encountered a self-powered cart with two workmen heading back to the roundhouse. One of them had a beautiful arrangement of wild daffodils he had picked for someone special.




Soon afterwards the work train passed us also heading back to the roundhouse.






We continued our walk and eventually arrived at the wye where the track work was being done.










We headed back to the depot and found the work train parked outside across from the roundhouse where the volunteers were having lunch.










After the work crew finished their lunch they departed the roundhouse and headed back to the wye to finish the track work. I took a few photographs as they headed down the track.









We had a very pleasant time visiting the Swanton Pacific Railroad on Valentine’s Day. The surroundings are beautiful and except for a few volunteers, we were the only ones there.
