One tribe, the Crow, in Lodge Grass, MT, is open to coal mining.
A friend who grew up in Billings told me that he used to read of problems in the Crow tribe frequently in the news.
In the past few years in Lodge Grass there has been a shooting, the city water supply getting shut off in a dispute, and a mayor in jail. Maybe allowing coal mining on the Crow reservation is a symptom of deeper issues and problems within that tribe. I wouldn't think strip mining was in line with native peoples' core values.
