Well, two of those "modifications" are pointless anyway, but that branch out to the lower right of the picture is close to something I've advocated for some time, aka a direct UP routing from Lewiston to Spokane via Joso. Modifying the bridge by building an eastward link between Pataha and the bridge's south end would allow such trains to bypass Ayer and the subsequent need to reposition the consist in the opposite direction.

It should also be noted that such a routing would probably be faster than the running times on the old P&L via Arrow and Moscow.
