Students of SP history know that there was once a vibrant freight business on the SP's peninsula sub that involved a lot customers that would get just a couple of cars a week or month. The SPINS for the peninsula shows the numerous customers in places like Millbrae, San Mateo, San Carlos, Sunnyvale, Lawrence, Santa Clara, and other major towns along the area, like Millbrae, South San Francisco. In the twenty years before the entire freight business collapsed, with customers deserting the SP for trucks, and other things, all of this changed.
When was service abandoned in these various switching zones and were zones abandoned while there were still customers there or did SP provide service right up until there was no one to provide service to?
Does anyone have the SPINS for the peninsula sub in 1985?
Will there be new customers on the peninsula? Who were the last ones to leave? When?
