That's because it wasn't the subject of the press conference. It was to celebrate opening of a local transit line. And the sales tax being promoted would pay for local transit, not HSR, so there's no reason to talk about HSR. Don't worry - as a politician he can read polls like any other and will mention HSR when and how it makes sense for his career.
