A few days ago I was pawing thru old RR trade press mags, as in before 1900,
maybe even 1880's. I didn't mark it and tried to find it again. No Luck.
It was a scheme for high speed freight and passenger service NY-Boston .
The vehicles would be in vacuumed tubes, supported by the small pressure of the remaining air all around. Freight speeds were to 400 mph, but passenger limited to a safe 200 mph.
I forget the method of propulsion- perhaps magnetic levitation and power were mentioned.
I do recall that " bullet" was thrown around in the description.
The Faithful may want to review Ecclesiastes "There is nothing new under the sun"
Others may care to review P.T.Barnum
