The narrator is not "Chuck Savage". Chuck was a Wire Chief for the Western Union Company.
He passed away many years ago. "J. Savage", the narrator, is possibly his son.
The narrator made a few mistakes in street description. On the 7th Street Line, south of Melrose, the street running is on Bond Street. Beyond the Chevrolet Plant at 73rd Avenue, the street is called Bancroft Avenue. The tail end of the 7th Street line is at Dutton Avenue in San Leandro. The IER did not travel far within San Leandro. Mainly in Oakland.
When asked by the producer if they went to Richmond, the narrator said no--only Berkeley.
Wrong-- they went as far as Albany.
At the beginning of the Sacramento Northern segment, the brief shot of the gentleman polishing the SN Drumhead is the late "Art Alter", known as the premier photographer of the SN. He took hundreds of still photos and several hundred feet of movies. Art did not mind climbing in hard to get spots to get a great and unique photo.
When he died quite young, his Father got so angry and upset that he took a LOT of Art's collection and burned it in an incerator ! Fact !! Very sad! We are lucky to have some of Art's collection in publications today !
