Very sad indeed
I think perhaps it may be the most photographed bridge in the world, Tower Bridge London and Golden Gate notwithstanding.
There are lots of teevee shows that used the west approaches, underneath, as stand in for New York, Wash DC etc.
The cable stayed replacement, for my money, is not hipster but an out-of-place excreasence.
Such bridges were first in Europe, then the first or nearly so in the US, was built at Pasco WA.
IT is fitting to the sweeping views of Switzerland, where it soars over fantastic scenery.
The new 6th street will join the one in Boston , very near North Station, as a turd in a punchbowl.
I do wonder how the cost of retrofit compared with cost to replace, but then those books could have been easily cooked as public projects almost always are.
I put my money on cost and time overruns no less than 1/3, and not unlikely 1.0 for the replacement.
Who knows , could LA be better at estimates than the Bay arhia?
