aIt always bothers me to see another example of Oakland's decline from civilization into anarchy. I was born in Oakland in 1951. My father was born in Oakland. His father worked for the California Railway there and retired from the Key System. Oakland was once a vibrant and safe city. I can remember walking along Lake Merritt with my parents and going to see the Ringling Bros. (yes with animal acts) at the Oakland Auditorium.Sure, there are still some desirable areas there but then there's this kind of crap that is for reasons unknown is tolerated. Come on. one arrest out of this? As Americans we have the right to assemble peacefully and to petition the government for the redress of our grievances. These riots are neither. In many cases these things are just an excuse to smash business windows and grab some Nikes and/or a few cases of malt liquor. Our government has neither the guts nor inclination stop this downward spiral. It's too bad.
