Tulare County board to buy RailAmerica rail line

This is a RailAmerica line that the STB recently approved for abandonment. Here's the first part of the Tulare Advance-Register newspaper article:

Tulare County will soon begin negotiations to buy 30 1/2 miles of railroad between Strathmore and Jovista that would otherwise be salvaged.

The purchase price could be in the range of $1 million. A second line the county is interested in could add another $700,000 to the price.

The Board of Supervisors approved an offer of financial assistance Tuesday that will stay the abandonment of the rail until negotiations are ended.
