I spent a many of Saturday around that old depot on my train watching days and really hated to hear this news. This may be the last of the old wood depots on the Bakersfield line. It was truly a treasure. It is a shame and may have been preventable. Barring arson, the Tehachapi depot sounds like the same old and true story that most fires occur in historic structures during the restoration. I do not know how you can get the attention of these people to get informed about fire prevention during construction. A vist by the local Fire Marshal for advise before the start of restoration may save their building for posterity. It is not stupidity it is just ignorance.
