If you are referring to the East Sacramento Valley line, it wyes off from the Overland Route in Roseville. Also worth noting that the Portland - Sacramento portion of the West Coast was cut in the 1930's, ( or maybe when the Shasta Daylight began in 1949 ? ), thus making the train an overnight Los Angeles to Sacramento run.
