Back in the late 80's I was riding the head end of the last Amtrak out of San Diego with a hoghead long since retired
As we arrived old Delmar I saw movement in the dark and we heard the back door of the F-40 open,
The hoghead told the San Diego Sub DS that we had "Illegal Riders" in the engine room
So the Oceanside Police and Border patrol met us, They requested we shut down the HEP so they could go inside (HEP on an F-40 is about 145 decibels)
They pulled 20 Illegals out including women and children and some were up in the Dynamic Brake grid where temps can hit 180 degrees!
A few had burns from climbing on the hot exhaust and touching the grids a few were deaf from the loud HEP, turns out the rotten coyote told them to ride up top and he would meet them at San Juan (he never showed up, took the money and ran)
