Doug passed away several years ago, obviously too soon. As to the original grade, it seems steeper
than 3% though you're descending on 80 as it's rising. The ground clearance issue is important as
the road/trail back toward the loop doesn't get any better as you get closer. Best bet is to walk
in the last half mile or so. The afternoon light is pretty good on a WB and if you come up from
the Pilot Peak exit (North side), the road is a little better and the light works for and EB. Do
be careful of private property if you decide to shoot to low side though. The only caveat being that as mentioned the schedules are really irregular. Ten years ago the MRORV got into Sparks in a four hour window, lotsa luck today.
