The Talgo equipment is very labor intensive due to its design, usually taking all night to complete the work. Wheels are always being turned on the maintenance night at Seattle. Sensors and switches were always being adjusted or replaced. Switching out a car in the Talgo set is complex and hardly ever done. In contrast when Superliners were substituted on the Vancouver train, maintenance was done in an hour or two at the most.
Talking to engineers running the newer Talgo cabs, you will hear that they are disliked. Complaints include that they are extremely noisy, controls are poorly laid out.
Engineers would rather have the NPCU (cabbage car, F40 cab car) as they feel safer and easier to run.
