How sad -- What an Opportunity Lost. This rail route parallels, within a mile or two on either side, the MOST CONGESTED HIGHWAY in Washington State -- Interstate 405. The Beginning of the End for this rail line was when BNSF allowed WS - DOT to sever the line, and not have to rebuild the line, when they expanded I - 405 in Bellevue. I still think the Right of Way should have been used for the Eastside Light Rail extension, at least from Bellevue North up to the Woodinville / Bothell area.
Meanwhile Sound Transit is asking the area voters to approve a ballot measure expanding the system, at a cost of 53 BILLION DOLLARS in NEW TAXES. This tax on property, vehicle tags, and sales tax increase too, would be in addition to the existing taxes Sound Transit already collects.
