Evidently Cummins changes its mind to cut costs

"Cummins Inc., the engine manufacturer, will rebuild SMART’s engines in Indiana before swapping them out in Sonoma County. SMART staff said the work will occur over weekends, beginning in November and lasting through April."

My guess is the previous plan to send the doodlebugs home promised to cut too deep into the profit margin. And maybe Cummims wants to get closer to the DMU's real world operating conditions and whether that is a factor. And maybe Nippon Sharyu doesn't.
