While limited competitive service options for additional linehaul carriers may be warranted in some cases, outright universal competitive switching is both unnecessary and destructive. Unlimited competitive switching is a draconian remedy likely to bankrupt most shortline operators, which ultimately result in lower, expensive service to their customers (or former customers) in the long-run.
