Work started this week on a washout repair at La Selva Beach and Class 1 track upgrades for the Polar Express that will begin operation out of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk starting November 18th. The washout was discovered earlier this year during a hi-rail inspection.




Here are a few photographs of the repair work in the sequence they were taken this week at La Selva Beach.










A representative from the La Selva Beach Homeowners Association arrived and the track foremen explained the scope of the work.










I talked with many residents at the top of the bluff and everyone was very supportive of the rail with trail. I also cleared up a lot off misinformation being spread by Trail Now and Brian Peoples. Many of them remember the coverage I did of the deconstruction and reconstruction of the La Selva Bridge and singing happy birthday to be at the opening ceremony for the new bridge.




As I prepared to depart the setting sun illuminated the new La Selva Bridge and I took one last shot. This year’s Polar Express should be a real treat for children and those of us who like to photograph trains.
